Vegas Day-2

Postby Devlin » Sun Jun 28, 2009 10:30 pm

Saturday, I play event #35 @ the Binions poker classic for $210, there was 216 runners, 6,000 chips, 30m blinds. I bought in early and decided to use the pool on the roof of the casino as it was 106 degrees outside! I had to blag the girl on the desk for a room key, I winked and give her the look  I think it was the $10 bribe that did it and not my good looks. I was 15 minutes late for the comp as I was doing my Mark Phelps impression and swilling down a few cold Heinekens.

I sit down only to find Mad Marty Wilson & James Browning on the table  we have a little chat about the usual *bleep* and tell the yanks that we swam here and brought lime etc... "REALLY?"

My first hand I look at AJo in the BB, Marty raises in EP and it folds to me, I pass face up and Marty shows KQ. I anounce that i'm plaing extra tight :? I didn't get much action for a long time, a few min raises in position to nick the blinds of the rocks and the weeds. We're down to 155 players, blinds are 150/300, I limp UTG with KK, the button raises to 1,200 and the blinds fold. I call thinking if an Ace comes I can fold and I havent lost too many chips. Sure as my sh*t stinks the flop comes down A8K! Now I dont mind the A too much :) I check, he bets out 3,000 I min raise to 6,000 and he pushes, if he has aces I go broke, I aint passing. He doesn't have aces, he shows A8, the turn and river blank out and I increase to 14,400 "Thats a bit risky limping UTG with KK" he says, it won didnt it!
Our table breaks up just before we get to the 2nd break, I have 18,075, average is 13,935 and we're down to 109 players. I have a little chat with Lynn Beaumont in the interval, she busted out quite early and was playing cash, Lynn's a really nice lady and it's always good to see familiar faces when you're away. I decide to turn it up a notch when I sit back down I raise and reraise with POO and soon get the image of a maniac, I lose to KK with J6  , I lose with 99 v TT and drop down to 4,000, I push with 33 and double up, I push with A2, no callers, I show the hand. Then I get AA, I push again and get a customer, he calls with QJ LOL, I keep increasing my stack and after a series of raising and re raising I managed to make it up to 39,200 and the blinds are 800/1600/200ra. The last hand before the break, a guy raises UTG to 5,000 and I look at 47o so I put him in for 22,000 (WTF?) he thinks for a bit and then makes the call with AQ (I dont know who is the maniac here) the flop comes TT4 and he heads for the exit after no further help. 51 players left, average is 29,784 I have 65,000 approx and top 20 get paid $9,900 to the winner 20th gets $450.
Now I should change gears and sit on my stack but I dont. I've had about 10 beers and I think i'm the bees knees. I continue to play like an idiot and eventually get into a raising war pre flop with a chipped up guy holding AA which absolutely crushes my J7, I slowly fade away and I eventually push with 78s for my last 6,000 to no improvement, I go out in 30th and deservedly so.
I had a good chance of winning this comp, getting through the 200+ field and showing the other players that i'm not affraid of getting my chips over the line. NO BEER WHILE PLAYING! I've said it before.
MY SUMMARY FOR THE DAY:
My balls are NOT bigger than my head! No matter how much I think they are.
Thanks for reading, onwards and upwards.

ah, that's where I'm going wrong with MTT's, I'm not setmining with kings enough early, and not 3-bet jamming unsuited semiconnectors enough later :D

Couldn't get a connection at the hotel but I'm in the Venetian now with no laptop. I've typed up day 3 so will post it later.
I've registered for the $330 deepstack starting at 12. There were 500 runners so far and the que is huge. I just spoke to Julian Thew, he won in the 500 the other day and did a 9 way deal for $44,000.
Chat soon. Martin, NO BEER!

Rob, my phone is off. I will ring you off my mates phone Tuesday night, otherwise I'll meet you at Binions for about 1pm Wednesday in the poker room.
Have a safe flight Pal.

Neil, I bet phelps could span the length of the pool if he stretched enough.

Thanks to everyone, Day 3 n 4 are up now too.
