I think I'm right in this situation, but the hostility and sanctimonious comments I got after left me doubting my move.

It was ipoker $2000 gp nhl. The blinds were 600/300 and there were about 72 runners/50 paid.

I only had 2500 chips left as I had just lost a pot and I was UTG. I got 45 unsuited and pushed and got called by AK. The 23 came on flop and the Ace on the river gave me the pot.

Surely this is just a push with any two cards? Or is it ok to lose 900 the next two hands and wait for a better spot with 1600 chips.

I defended myself when I was called a muppet by the loser, and a few others joined in, calling me various names.

Anyway I told them all that none of them had a basic understanding of short-stack tourney poker, and then exited a few hands later with AJs, much to the table's amusement..

the only thing i think you have done wrong here is possibly waited to long to make that move so you've ended up doing it utg.

apart from that, i totally agree that 45 suited is as good as any hand when short stacked. you are always better to be the agressor in the pot, rather than wait til the next hand when in bb and have to call with ure garbage.

a lot of people who play online poker don't understand the general concepts of the "60/40" race, whether it be ak vs 23 or 89 or 45. they see ak as bullets.

i think the best thing to do is turn ure chat off, so you don't get abuse from numptys who don't understand the game. Very Happy

he'd just lost a pot, so i don't think he's just waited for a few orbits

OP: completely standard push, but don't educate the fish

I concur - you did the right thing. Turn the chat off and enjoy your game.
