Sick river or just plain old bad play. The check on the turn convinced me he didnt have AK. _________________ Its *bleep* but your bored so read it:

let's think about what his range is:
it's a $55 and he's raised in early position preflop, so I doubt that a four is any part of his range (maaaaaybe 44 if he's loose, who knows). he then proceeds to bet about 3/4 pot into two players. if he had an ace here, this makes sense. if he had something like QQ/JJ, would he c-bet into two players with two overcards on the board, who knows? personally i'm not sure he would. call is fine here.
turn check is probably an attempt at a checkraise, quite right to check behind and take the free card.
then he bets the river. two questions here:
- why on earth do you minraise. WILL. PEOPLE. STOP. MINRAISING. this isn't limit.
- when you raise, what worse hands do you expect him to call you with?
- what hands do you put him on that you beat that are justified in shoving over 110 big blinds over your minraise? given the action? AA, AK make very good sense. 44 is a possibility. Other random case kings for a split are probably just calling, but you only split with them. _________________ Jon Thomson

Thanks for the detailed response. My thoughts on reflection.
Maybe should have just folded KQ from that position but hey ho like to see some cheap flops early door with hands like this.
My style is to play small pots early doors and was only really playing to catch a monster hand. I have him on big A given his bet and position pre flop.
His bet on the flop is okay as I have him on the A and possibly AK so calling now for a flush only bet want to keep the pot small so no reraise with the nut flush draw.
The turn check is the killer for me. Can he be checking with AK to give me a free card to fill a straight or flush? Clearly he can but at this point i written off AA,AK and KK from his range.
The K on the river and my view of the hand changes drastically. I agree with you on the min raise but I am again just hoping to extract some value here from his Ax.
Rereaise all in and I must confess I have insta called without assessing the situation due to my previous line of thought. _________________ Its *bleep* but your bored so read it:

AA and KK would be quite happy to let you hit a straight or flush _________________ Jon Thomson

I know its not everyone's choice but thats the risk you take entering pot from that position with that hand sometimes it works well sometimes you just crash and burn baby. |
