Event #47 - $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi/Low
Stud Hi/Low Kickoff Set for 5pm
The second of two events getting underway on Thursday jumps from the gate at 5pm PDT. That's Event 47, $1,500 Seven-Card Stud Hi/Low (Eight or Better), with the first eight levels of play set for Day 1 play.
In 2007, this event was one of two that Tom "Donkey Bomber" Schneider captured on his way to become the WSOP's Player of the Year. Schneider triumphed over 667 others, and survived an up-and-down final in the process, collecting $147,713 and his second bracelet with the win. _________________ the star of cctv will be watching you! |

David Singer Has Sung
David Singer, recently crippled in a hand where his opponent made four sixes, was down to his final 800. He put it in on third street and was called by three players: Men Nguyen, Mike Hefer and Vince Burgio. Those three players checked the action down all the way through the river. Burgio made trip fives for high; Nguyen made 7-6-5-2-A for low. Singer had an open pair of eights on his board but couldn't come up with anything after he squeezed the river.
He is eliminated in 57th place. All of the remaining players are in the money. _________________ the star of cctv will be watching you! |

Hellmuth Drops Post-Bustout F-Bombs
On fourth street:
Phil Hellmuth: x-x /
Tim D\'Alessandro: x-x /
Hellmuth bets and D\'Alessandro raises. Hellmuth re-raises all in and D\'Alessandro calls.
Hellmuth:
D\'Alessandro:
Hellmuth starts with a pair and a low draw and bricks out, while D\'Alessandro catches a miracle Q on seventh street to bust Hellmuth out in 33rd. Hellmuth collects $2,895.
\"He\'s so f***** bad,\" Hellmuth says. \"There\'s no way you\'re going to f***** win.\" Hellmuth continues like this out the door.
After Hellmuth leaves, D\'Alessandro asks the table how many bracelets Hellmuth has won in non-hold\'em events. \"That\'s right - zero!\" he answers to his own question. \"Stick to hold\'em, Phil.\" _________________ the star of cctv will be watching you! |

Men Nguyen Eliminated in 17th Place ($4,752)
It\'s a tough way to go out when you make a low in this game. Yet that\'s what happened to Men Nguyen. He was all in on fifth street with / . Mike Hefer, who was the only player to come that far with Nguyen, made the call with a nice hand of his own: / . Hefer had a pair of sixes, and was four to a low, four to a flush, and four to a straight. He hit the low on sixth street when he caught the , and made two pair on seventh with the .
Nguyen bricked out the rest of the way, finishing second-best for high and low. He is eliminated in 17th place and earns $4,752. _________________ the star of cctv will be watching you! |

David Sklansky Eliminated in 8th Place ($19,306)
David Sklansky found himself continually bricking and folding on fourth or fifth street. He was finally down to 10,000 -- which was 8,000 after the ante. When Tim D\'Alessandro completed to 8,000 with the , Sklansky called all in with the . Then Ryan Hughes put a wrench in the works by reraising the . D\'Alessandro called.
Fourth street:
D\'Alessandro: x-x /
Sklansky: x-x /
Hughes: x-x /
Both players checked.
Fifth street:
D\'Alessandro: x-x /
Sklansky: x-x /
Hughes: x-x /
D\'Alessandro bet, and Hughes called.
Sixth street:
D\'Alessandro: x-x /
Sklansky: x-x /
Hughes: x-x /
Again D\'Alessandro bet, and Hughes called. Both players checked the river. D\'Alessandro turned over A-6-9 in the hole for three aces. Hughes quickly called a low with 4x for a 7-5 low. Sklansky opened 9-7-3 for no low and a pair of sevens.
\"I wish I had gotten something to play with,\" said Sklansky as he exited first from the final table of an event for the second time in a week. He walks away with $19,306 in prize money. _________________ the star of cctv will be watching you! |

How Long?
Ron Long is starting to slip into the twilight of this tournament. After briefly capturing the chip lead earlier, he is being ground down by the relentless aggression, smart play, and timely draws of Ryan Hughes. Hughes was one club away from severely crippling Long just a little while ago, and continues to chip away at Long's stack. The current chip counts are about 1,380,000 for Hughes to 250,000 for Long.
With the limits at 30,000 and 60,000, and only 1.6 million chips in play, we expect the tournament to end this level. _________________ the star of cctv will be watching you! |

Congratulations to Ryan Hughes, Champion of Event #47 ($183,368)
For the second year in a row, Ryan Hughes won a tournament he wasn't even supposed to play.
"I was supposed to go home two days ago but someone emailed me and told me to play," said Hughes. It was the same situation last year, with the same result -- a gold bracelet.
Technically, according to Media Director Nolan Dalla, Hughes is not the defending champion in this event. Every year, there is a higher buy-in stud-8 event and a lower buy-in event. Last year, Hughes won the higher buy-in event. This year, he has won the lower buy-in. No matter to Hughes -- he's thrilled to have his second bracelet.
"The second bracelet means a little more because it's a lot tougher crowd to get into," explained Hughes. "A lot of people get the first bracelet, but the second one means it's not quite a fluke."
For his not-quite-a-fluke, Hughes will pocket $183,368 in addition to that second bracelet to match the first. Congratulations once again to Ryan Hughes. _________________ the star of cctv will be watching you! |
