Playing at bolton casino tonight £75 freezeout.... 49 runners.... paying down to five places.

12 left, blinds 2000 - 4000.

Folds to button 50,000 in chips(tight player) who limps, i have 41,000 on SB and limp with 6-8 suited.
BB checks 30,000 in chips.

I have a tight image at this table only showed good hands at showdown.

Flop A 6 3 rainbow.

I check BB checks and button bets 10,000.

Im pretty sure he has A rag or has hit the 6 or the 3.

I come over the top for 27,000 more representing two pair with the check raise.

BB folds and after about 3 mins of thought botton calls with A 9.

Questions i ask are...... was this guy a genius or an idiot? .......

Did i make an over complicated bluff?

Was it a bad time to try pick up a 22k pot when if i had folded im still above ave chip stack?

I seem to be bubbling a lot recently as i do move up a gear when it comes down to last two tables or the bubble if im not chipped up.

Maybe wait for others to knock each other out and wait for big hands instead?

Would appreciate some feedback on this as im really struggling with my (late in the tourney) game recently.

I don't consider myself an "expert" by any stretch of the imagination but I think when you get to that stage of the tournament you have to make the decision whether to limp into the money or play your hands and try and get to being chip leader and winning it. The course you take depends on your bankroll and your style of play.

Personally I will always go for it and try and win the tournament. This aggressive style of play takes advantage of small stakes who are just trying to make the money. However, this style also means that you can crash and burn (as I did in the league online game on Virgin last night). It's up to you to decide which way you want to play.

I'm shoving A9 preflop there, and definitely never folding that shallow having limped for no good reason. he can't put you on anything better as you'd have raised pre

Always read dependent; if you think you can get him to fold then fair enough. You had outs too of course.

Thinking in his shoes, what hands can he put you on?

A bigger ace raises preflop, as does AA, 66 or 33 (I'm presuming 66 or 33 is a shove here because of the blinds structure).

That only leaves A6, A3 or 63 that he is behind to and he is getting over 2-1 on his money. Its a call for me in that situation and I think the bluff attempt, although admirable, is mistimed.

I don't like a check raise in this situation. I think here I bet out and control the size of the pot. If he re-raises I let it go, if he flat calls and I put him on an Ace I shut down. Either way I keep the cost to myself at a minimum, helping to protect my stack. Of course I'm probably folding 6 8 in the SB out of position anyway.

I always hate it when people say "How can you call, I was representing......". If he took that long to think you obviously had him worried, but in my opinion he's calling in a heartbeat if he had Ace King - it was the kicker that was worrying him, he wasn't sat there wondering if you had 2 pair.

I just say to them "Well just goes to show how well you represented it then!", kinda shuts them up.
