Made my first visit to The Broadway Casino in Birmingham last night.Easy to locate, at the end of Hagley Road, turn left at the fiveways roundabout, and about 50 yards on there is an underground car park where an elevator takes you to the casino. Dont worry about the parking charges the casino picks up the tab.
From the moment you enter the casino it oozes class and luxury. From reception onwards the staff were smart and helpful. The casino is huge, with two bars and a large lounge. Away from the casino floor is the cardroom and it’s great. Eight poker tables and lots of room between them, it’s a pleasure to play. All comps and cash games have house dealers and they are GOOD. No entry fee for the comps and no session charges for the cash games. This I understand will be casino policy until June.
The ante structure for the £20 no limit holdem comp I played in was a joy.1500 chips, 25/50 blinds for 90 minutes, then a 20 minute clock. This is how I want to play poker. The big disappointment was the turn out, only 24 runners. Even so it made £1400 and another £100 was added by the cardroom.
Needless to say I did not make the top 20 but still enjoyed the evening. Waitress service is hard to beat. Sandwiches and drinks (soft) no charge and hot pizza was served during the break.
I talked to some of the senior management and they are 100% behind the cardroom. The local players should really support this venture, they deserve to succeed. By the way the cardroom is NON smoking.
P.S. No jeans, trainers or t shirts. Trousers and jacket, ties optional, are the dress code recommended.
